To compensate for the lack of articles I've been posting on this website, here are two links to recent pieces (click on the titles below for access) I've written about topics/experiences that form a fundamental part of my life (outside of AUVs!):
1. HCLN Yearbook 2018 - Finding My Voice - I've been an Adult Literacy Tutor with the Halifax Community Learning Network (HCLN) for almost ten years now. Here in Halifax, public libraries offer free tutoring for adults (age 19+) who have been out of school for at least one year and who do not have a high school diploma. On page 22 of the yearbook, I've written about my feelings as a tutor and why I think this program is so important. (I love clichés - they're clichés for a reason! - so here's a great one for the occasion: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.")
2. Science connections - This summer, I spent three weeks in Cabo Verde, a small island nation on the west coast of Africa. Although short, my experience there was so memorable that I want to share it with everyone, but I'm still undecided on how to best achieve this. Meanwhile, you can read a bit about it and see some (amazing) photos in a news article published by Dalhousie University.
